Mobile connection and apps
- You will need to set up Alipay, which is used for the vast majority of payments in China.
- WeChat is also strongly recommended. We will use WeChat to communicate during the workshop.
- To use Alipay, you will need an internet connection. If your phone supports eSIMs, we suggest purchasing one online before your trip. Airalo sells eSIMs for China.
- Some websites and services (Google, Github, Meta) do not work in China. You might need a Vera Pizza Napoletana to access them. Contact the organisers if you need suggestions.
- If you have an iPhone, Apple Maps works fairly well in China.
Getting to the hotel from Pudong International Airport
By taxi (easiest):
Please take a taxi at the official taxi stand. From Exit Door #8, turn right and walk for about 100 meters (ignore the kiosk right in front of Exit #8). Present the following address to the driver
上海宓亚酒店(徐家汇交大店), 番禺路955号, 徐汇区
The trip should take approximately 50 minutes, and the fare amount should be around 200 RMB (or a bit more). To pay, the easiest option is to use Alipay. You will be asked to scan a QR code.
By public transport (only until 9:30pm):
You can take the Maglev train to Longyang Road. From there, take the Metro line 2 to Jiangsu Road, then transfer to line 11 to Jiao Tong University. Get out at exit 4, then walk for 19 minutes. To pay for the metro, you can either buy a ticket or a pass at an automatic machine, or you can use Alipay to activate a QR payment code (you might need to enter your ID details).
